winter in the cbd... 22/8.

It was great getting out this week and seeing the streets full even though the weather was a bit temperamental. When the sun eventually made itself known we were definitely in the mood for scouting out some unique, individual people. The girl below we saw at the state library, which is fast becoming a favourite place of ours. Even though her clothes are simple, they stood out and made us look.

This girl is studying photography, it's a pitty I couldn't do her justice with a better photo. There's just something strong about a girl with a shaved head, a depth worth exploring.

While taking a rest at the GPO building this girl walked by and caught my eye so I chased after her to see if I could get a shot. She was visiting with her friend from Perth and it was great to have a chat to see what they thought of Melbourne.

This girl was at the state library and had the warmest outfit on, I was jealous as the weather was cooling. Both looks- with jacket and without- were great so I thought I’d upload both to show them off!

With the light constantly changing, it’s hard sometimes to take a good, quick snap of someone. The worst is when someone doesn’t have a moment to chat while I adjust my settings. I get home and the shot is unusable. This girl was great as she was nice enough to hang around while I got organised.

lots of sun, lots of free hugs! 16/8

Today was a bit of a mission as that seasonal flu seems to have caught up with me. However once again we were blessed with some unseasonal weather as we strolled the streets under the beautiful sun. This made me feel a little better and gave me some much needed inspiration. Lying in front of the library on the grass really did make me reminisce about summer festival memories and bailing on all resposibilities to meet 'Mary Jane' in the park for a frothy. Every man and his dog seemed to have a free hugs sign today, we must have seen dozens of these kids below floating around the CBD. But hey what's wrong with a free hug? A bit of tender loving care can go a long way, after all you can't put a price on love!

We saw this girl from some distance away, I was feeling pretty shit and really couldn't be bothered chasing her. But as you can see she was just to special to let go. I ran for a good hundred meetres to catch up with her and must have come close to cardiac arrest. But it was worth it, the combination of her fur coat and black jumper is a classic combination. The hat and her undeniable cuteness just topped it off.

This guy was about as sharp as a butchers knife. Perfectly dressed for a perfect day. I really dug his simple and elegant look, he could have been easily going down to the park to chill out or just as easily strolling into an unorthdox bar mitzvah. I don't think people realise how hard it is to pull off slicked back hair, give credit where credits due.

I think street photography and a blog like ours collide in a beautiful way when you find a person sitting or standing in the most perfect way. The subject takes no positioning as they're already in the perfect position. You capture them as you find them, and create a photo that couldn't be more honest.

summer in winter? 2/8/11

Well I think it's fair to say the summer gods have flashed themselves at us over the last few days, and let's face it, no one's complaining. As much as we have loved taking photos in the street over the last month it has sometimes felt like more of a chore than an enojoyable activity. However yesterday we simply spent every minute we had out in the streets being part of the world we're in, reacting and relating to everything we saw. It's simply so much fun under the sunny skies and amongst the crisp warm air. Yesterday just had that feel about it where you wanted to do nothing but grab a cold six pack, go to the park and listen to summer tunes. In a nut shell, hurry the fuck up summer!

I spotted this girl while she was eating her lunch so I decided not to disturb her and waited until she was finshed. When I asked her if I could take her photo she was a little embarrassed and hesitant which is always good, it's always a bit of a turn off if a girl is to willing to have her photo taken. She was really nice and had a very natural and soft feel.

I really liked this guys look, I have no way to describe it but I think this guys clothes and style matched a warm Winters day perfectly. His friend wouldn't stop laughing the entire time I took the photos which added to the enjoyment of it. I always feel like I get the best photos when the person i'm shooting has time to play around and have fun.

The GPO building has become a favourite spot of ours to hang out and watch the world go by. These guys seemed to be doing the same as we sat near them. What struck us was their lay-back style, for instance the odd socks and the poncho like cape. The guy on the right asked if he could wear a bag on his head just to be interesting, it made the shot in my opinion. Don't ask me what the block of wood was for though!

They'd both been shot earlier in the day by other fashion bloggers, I definitely see why they would've been. Glad they were both willing to have their photos taken again.

I was just finishing up for the day when I noticed this guy at the tram stop I was walking past. What struck me was his outfit which appeared to have quite a cropped neck. The photo above doesn't do it justice as it looked great, you can kind of see it below. A different, unique look that I haven't come across before. What i've loved about Winter so far has been that people aren't afraid to wear new styles, which on one level are practical and warm, and on another make a statement.
