I think yesterday had a little bit of everything, some beautiful rare winter sun, some ghost like mist that

covered the city, some very uninspiring moments and most importantly some very inspiring moments. Although we feel so very lucky to be able to spend so much time out in the world we're in and reacting to those things that we find so interesting, sometimes you can't help feeling that maybe you’re asking a little bit much of the world when nothing seems to catch your eye. We spent hours yesterday walking around and didn't see a single person we felt seduced us with their style in anyway, however as patience is a virtue, after seeing the cat below our fortunes changed.

 It seemed to be the flavour of the day that we took photos of people on holidays, the girl above is from Auckland.

M.

It's always hard to take a photo of someone when they're working, which is unfortunate because we see so many special people who are working when they catch our eye. This girl was in a big rush to get back into her shop Hunter Gatherer, however I managed to get a few quick snaps off and she was very patient. There was something very strong about her and very powerful, but at the same time beautiful.

M.

 

We saw this guy several times on Brunswick St wheeling a pram, and eventually the combination of his style and the fact that he could be the coolest dad we have ever seen overcame us and we just had to capture him.
M.

As we sat down for lunch and took a rest this cat jumped up on my seat and snuggled into my jacket. He was very friendly and placid and a dude working at the cafe said he was a regular. The cat ended up changing our luck dramatically as a wave of wonderful fashion washed over us following this little interaction.

 In relation to photography the sun has always been a menace to me. It's never created any beauty and has caused me many problems. However due to some helpful tips and my undoubted love of light I’ve started trying to work alongside the sun. We had some really nice low sunlight to work with yesterday and this guy was one of those people where we both just looked at each other and said yep without any hesitation.

This guy was on a holiday from Perth and had just bought a record, I had to chase him through the fog, but it was worth it.

M.

 You very rarely see two really good people to shoot together, but when it happens it's a pretty euphoric feeling. This guy is a fashion designer from the label 'Two Trees', Bea has written a little more about them below.

M.

Every time we go out with a keen eye for people on the street something always catches my eye. Whether this is hair, clothes or accessories, it's always great to see people confidently wearing what they want and ignoring the restrictions of the season. As it's currently winter, anyone who isn't completely rugged up stands out for me. Today  this girl immediately caught my attention with her stunning red socks, which may be a bit cold to wear but definitely look great.

Heading into the city we were overcome by the amount of fog descending upon the skyline. We couldn't see the tops of buildings let alone the top of the Arts Centre and many seemed shocked at how quickly the 'cold spell' had come on. What struck us were the amount of people who had been caught out wearing shorts, dresses without stockings, and short-sleeved tops because of the sunny afternoon. This girl that we found was indeed cold with her long socks so a quick few snaps were taken so she could venture to warmer parts of the cbd.

It's great to meet people out on the street and hear about what they do day to day. This guy we found to be a fashion designer for a new label called 'Two Trees'. It's to be launched in August and seems to already have quite a following, check them out on Facebook.

federation square and flinders st station. 14/6.

We had a great day shooting around the center of the city, mainly around Flinders Street Station and Federation Square. Even though it's winter and mid-week, hundreds of people are out and about off to various areas of Melbourne. It's great to be able to sit back and watch this in action as people head to the station or Fed-Square's recently created 'campfire'. It's definitely the best part of what we do, meeting a variety of people and hearing their stories.

While just having a look around Fed-Square this girl caught our eye. We were immediately jealous by how warm she looked in this gorgeous poncho!

It's great having a wonder around Flinders Street later in the afternoon as so many people pass us by, each with a different style, pace and place to be. It's hard to spot people in the massive crowds unless they're wearing something bright, or really outrageous. This girl stood out in front of the Flinders Street station clocks due to her patterned skirt and jumper.

People ask us all the time why we only seem to take photos of people who seem quite young, however we in no way partake in anyform of age descrimination. It just seems that most of the people who catch our eye are of the younger generation. That's why we got really exited when we saw this guy sitting out the front of the library having a smoke. He had a sense of elegance and ettiquette about him as he watched the world go by.

One of the sadest things about doing a blog like this one is that it almost creates a another life or world within the life you already have. And as much as you want or try to combine them there's still segragration. We go out people watching, see someone we think is special, ask them if we can take their photo, maybe have a little chat to them, take their photo, then say thanks and generally never see them again. Which sometimes doesn't seem fair when you take someones photo who seems really nice and gorgeous as this girl was and you wish you had of met them in your normal life. But that's just the way it is.

When doing street portraits, as a lot of people would know, it's all about finding the right person, combining them with the best possible background and hoping the light is obliging. It's almost a little miracle when all three come together. That's why when we saw this aboriginal fire at Fed-Square we knew we had the basis to create a great picture. We just had to find the right person and I believe we did!

M.

Often we see someone we would really like to get a picture of but they're too far away or moving too fast and we loose them. We saw this guy and literally ran a hundred metres after him and thankfully caught him.
M.

Anyone who has wings on their shoes is kicking serious goals in my book.

M.

This girl was almost glowing as we saw her coming down the laneway in the opposite direction to which we were heading. Three of us scrambled our cameras together to see who would get her picture. She and the guy shown above were really cool to have a chat to.

Our deepest apologies to all of our fans for the lack of posts lately, to which we have fallen into the hole known only as mid-year exams. However this unfortunate time of the year is now over for us and we plan to get out and about a lot over the coming weeks. As the ski season has now started we expect things to get even colder and with it the deepest and warmest winter catalogue of the year.

 We found this guy sitting on a wall on Swanston St just watching the people go by, he's also a blogger. For some reason in the past the old denim on denim has fallen to bad taste and has seemed far to eighties to ever come back in, however over the last year as you may have seen on the blog a few people are making it work as this guy does. Anyway he caught our eye, and has an element of cool about him.

As you may have noticed we've been taking lots of shots around the library of late. Because of exams there's just so many students coming in and out which has created an homogenized library of style for us. It's a beautiful thing watching people walk around inside a world of knowledge, dodging mediocrity and the ordinary, because something individual, is something special.
M.

While strolling near Melbourne Central, this girl struck us to have a warm, individual, winter look. Recently we've taken a few snaps of people wearing 'uggies', and although many of us may just wear them around the house, we're increasingly jealous when we see people wearing them on the street. Primary reason- they're warm! This girl proves they're not just daggy, or a form of slippers rather the perfect shoes to wear on a freezing Melbourne evening.

A new trend that we've started to see emerge around the city has been capes. Sold from a variety of places, such as American Apparel, they're not only warm but also make a bold statement. Worn with a jumper, cardi or coat, they're a must for winter wardrobes. This girl caught our eye as we were walking towards Bourke St with her blue cape standing out from the crowd...

Winter in Melbourne.

Well..... Winter has started with that crisp wind and that unforgiving chill as you get out of bed each morning. However with this seasonal change comes a whole new wave of style as girls put away their summer dresses and the boys say goodbye to their shorts for a while. The fascination of huge fluffy beanies, trench coats, scarves, duffel coats, cloaks and capes is only just beginning. There's something wonderful about something beautiful being concealed and hidden under dramatic over sized materials portraying self individuality and style. I feel this way each day when I, along with others, watch the world go by. Sometimes I feel as though you just have to get out there and let yourself fall in love a little, as a girl in a enormous cloak and a fur hat walks by you can only wonder what beauty is within. With this blog we hope to show you that people feel these same sentiments all around the world.

Call me a wanka, call me a bullshit artist.

But this is our time.

And the time to be yourself is now and throw away any self insecurities and preservation's.
